Connect your spreadsheets with Geckoboard

Our Spreadsheets integration is a quick and easy way to transform your Google Sheets and Excel files into beautiful dashboards. Connect and push data from your spreadsheet hosted in Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive for Business, or anywhere your file is hosted online.

Before you start

  • If your spreadsheet data has been imported from an application, check if we have a pre-built integration for it. They are by far the easiest way to quickly get your data onto your dashboards, with each integration containing a comprehensive list of widgets with predefined KPI’s, making things even easier for you.
  • If you’re looking for complete control over how your data is displayed, our Datasets allow you to use our API to send your data from a database or third-party service onto your dashboard.

Note: The file size limit for uploaded spreadsheets is 5 MB.

If you’re using Google Sheets

To connect your Google Sheets, follow these steps.

  1. Click Add widget, located in the top right of your dashboard.Add_widget.jpg

  4. If you haven’t done so already, create a connection to link your Google Drive account with Geckoboard. And that’s it! You're now ready to prepare a visualization using your spreadsheet data.

Tip: After connecting to your Google Drive account, you may see the message: "there was an error fetching the list of spreadsheets". If so, you need to allow Google Drive permission to share data with Geckoboard.

To do this, open the Google Apps control panel and navigate to Apps > Google Apps > Settings for Drive, and make sure "Allow users to install Google Drive apps" in the "Data Access" menu is enabled.

If you’re using Excel

To connect your Excel file, follow these steps.

  1. Click Add widget, located in the top right of your dashboard.getstarted_add_widget.jpeg
  2. You'll see a scrollable list of Integrations. Click Spreadsheets.spreadsheets_button.jpeg
  3. From the Choose File menu, click on the service that hosts your .xlsx files. We support Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive for Business, or any other service that is able to provide a direct link to files.

Note: Only the .xlsx file extension is supported for Excel files.

  4. If you are using Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive for Business as host, create a connection to link that service with Geckoboard.

Note:  Google Drive is used to connect both Google Sheets and Excel files saved on Google Drive.

If you have a web link to your Excel file, simply type it in the Link to file field. The URL of your file will act as data source. Our integration will do the rest.

Note: Only HTTP and HTTPS protocols are supported. If your URL link to your file doesn't start with http:// or https:// the connection button won't be displayed.

And that’s all there is to it!
