Customizing your dashboard

Now that you've got your most important metrics on your dashboard, you're sharing the dashboard with your team and you've considered the best layout to communicate your data it might be time to think about customization.

Customize your dashboard with your own logo by following the simple steps below:

  1. Hit the Customize button in the top right corner of your dashboard
  2. Drag and drop or select a file to upload and hit save

Logos are available for all paid plans except the Essential plan.

If you’re on an Essential or Pro plan you’ll need to speak to our Support team to get the paid add-on for Advanced Dashboard Theming to customize your dashboard colors. It’s already included on Company plans.

Hit the Customize button in the top right corner of your dashboard Within the Advanced Themes section you’ll see the menu below which will allow you to adapt your dashboard.

You’ll need to know the specific hex codes for the colors you’d like to use. If you’re not sure what the hex codes are for your brand either ask your designer or use a tool like this to pull colors from your logo.

Here’s a look at a dashboard we’ve customized to highlight where each of the color options sit.

When it comes to customizing your dashboard you don’t want the colors to be a distraction from the numbers you’re sharing so we’ve got some pointers on how to best color your dashboard:

Brand color

This is used for sparklines, bar and line chart series, etc. Make sure this colour stands out on your dashboard and widget background colours.

Dashboard background

This is the backdrop for your dashboard, try to avoid anything too bright or distracting.

Widget background

We’d recommend using the same hue as the dashboard color, but with more or less brightness.

Text

For improved readability we recommend using white for dark dashboards and black for light dashboard themes. If you prefer to pick a color, we'd suggest picking a dark color for a light theme and a light color for a dark theme.

Positive state, caution state and negative state

For each of the alert states, it’s best to stick to greens, ambers and reds to avoid confusing your viewers and making sure everyone understands when alerted by a color.

To display an image on your dashboard add a widget and select Image from the data sources list. On the config screen enter your image's URL path and select how often it needs reloading on your dashboard. Accepted image formats include JPG, PNG, GIF and SVG.

You can also use hosting services to host your image files. See our guides for Dropbox and Google Drive.

You can add emojis to your dashboard when editing widget titles and labels as well as the Text widget. To bring up a gallery of emoji, press cmd + ctrl + space (Mac) or win + . (Windows) on your keyboard.
