The Metrics MCP can be used with Gemini Enterprise, Google Cloud’s AI platform for organizations. The standard Gemini experience (the one available at gemini.google.com, or through the Gemini features in Gmail and Docs) does not currently support custom MCP connections.
Your Gemini Enterprise administrator adds the MCP for your organization. Once that’s done, each user signs in to their own Geckoboard account.
Get your OAuth client details
Contact Geckoboard support to request an OAuth client ID and client secret for Gemini Enterprise. Your administrator will use these details when adding the connection.
Prepare Gemini Enterprise
Your Google Cloud administrator needs to:
Allow Custom MCP data stores in your organization’s policies.
Add
gateway.geckoboard.comandoauth.geckoboard.comto the allowed egress domains.Give the person creating the connection the Discovery Engine Editor role.
For projects with additional data-source restrictions or VPC Service Controls, also allow custom_mcp. Google’s Custom MCP setup guide covers these settings.
Add the connection
In the Google Cloud console, open Gemini Enterprise → Data stores → Create data store.
Find Custom MCP Server and select Add MCP server.
Choose OAuth 2.0 and enter the settings below.
MCP Server URL:
https://gateway.geckoboard.com/mcpAuthorization URL:
https://oauth.geckoboard.com/oauth/authorizeToken URL:
https://oauth.geckoboard.com/oauth/tokenClient ID and Client Secret: the details supplied by Geckoboard support.
Scopes:
mcp:readEnable PKCE Support: selected.
Use HTTP Basic Authentication: unselected.
It should look something like this:
Select Verify Auth and complete Geckoboard sign-in. Continue, choose the connection’s location, name it Geckoboard, and select Create. Wait for its state to become Active.
Enable Geckoboard for your team
Gemini Enterprise calls MCP tools actions. These are switched off initially.
Open the Geckoboard data store and select Actions → Reload custom actions. Sign in again if prompted.
Select the Geckoboard actions and choose Enable actions. Include the discovery tools as well as the query tools, so Gemini can find the right connections and metrics.
Under Apps → your Gemini Enterprise app → Connected data sources, check that Geckoboard is connected. If it isn’t, follow Google’s instructions for connecting the data store to your app.
Ensure that anyone in your team that you wish to use the MCP has the
roles/mcp.toolUserIAM role. Google have instructions for how to do this.
Sign in to Geckoboard
