Manage your data sources

A data source is any service with which Geckoboard integrates, such as Facebook or Google Analytics. To create widgets powered by data from these services, Geckoboard must form a connection to the data source. 

Data sources are used when you first set up a widget, and any time a widget needs to refresh its data. Before you can configure a widget, Geckoboard needs to access the data source for that widget.

Note: Only account owners and admins can manage data sources.

Connect a data source while creating

To add a new connection for the first time, follow these steps. 

  1. In the top right of your dashboard, click + Add Widget.  
  2. Next, search for the integration you want to add and select it. 
  3. On the next page, click the widget visualization you'd like to use. 
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to create a connection.  Connection_to_data_source.png
  5. Once the connection is added, configure and save the widget. 

Connect a data source while editing

To add a new connection while editing a widget, follow these steps. 

  1. Locate the widget you want to add a new connection for on your dashboard. 
  2. In the top right corner of the widget, click the more options  icon, then click Edit.  
  3. Next, click the + Add button.

  4. Follow the on-screen steps to connect your account.  

Delete a data source

Tip: We strongly recommend removing connections to data sources that are no longer needed. This way you can easily identify which data sources are in use.

To delete a data source connected to your account, follow these steps.

    1. In the top right corner, click your initials and from the drop-down, and select Admin.Admin_menu.png
    2. On the next page, click the Data sources tab.View_data_sources.png
    3. Click the  vertical ellipsis and select delete connection. 
    4. Click delete connection again when prompted. 

Warning: By default, deleting your connection to a data source will delete the associated widgets as well. If you want to retain the widgets, uncheck the option when deleting the data source. 

Reconnect a data source

There are various reasons data source connections may expire (e.g. recent password change) and typically, we'll send you an email notification. 

To reconnect a data source, follow these steps. 

  1. In the top right corner, click your initials and from the drop-down, and select Admin.Admin_menu.png
  2. On the next page, click the Data sources tab.
  3. Next, click the Reconnect button for the service you want to reconnect. 

  4. Follow the on-screen steps to reconnect your account. 

Note: If the Reconnect button isn't available, you'll need to create a new connection to that data source, and assign your existing widgets the new data source.
