My widgets are displaying "We were unable to build your widget"


This article does not apply to Salesforce. Deleting your connection will cause a permanent connection issue. Please see our dedicated Salesforce article about this error.

You may find that your widgets get stuck showing the following error message:

We were unable to build your widget. Salesforce widgets with the error we are unable to build your widget

This error typically occurs when someone makes a change to the connection powering a widget in some way; such as the password, for example.

To help resolve the issue and get your widgets working again, you'll need to disconnect and then reconnect your connection.

To disconnect your connection, follow these steps:

  1. Click on your initials in the top right hand corner.login to your geckoboard account
  2. From the drop-down, select Admin.options from the admin menu
  3. Click the Connections sources tab on admin navigation
  4. Click the more options icon and select Delete connection.


    By default, deleting your connection to a data source will delete all the associated widgets.

    You must check the option Delete connection only (widgets will stop working) when deleting the data source.Delete the connection only

  5. Click Delete connection again when prompted.

Now you'll need to reconnect your connection. To do this, follow these steps:


You can only edit widgets exclusively from a dashboard when using the following integrations:

If your integration isn't listed, click the Edit from config tab above this note and follow the steps.

  1. Locate a failing widget you want to reconnect your connection for on your dashboard.
  2. Click the more options icon in the top right corner to bring up the widget options.edit widget menu
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Click the Account name in widget configuration menu.change connection
  5. Click the Add connection option to connect a new account.
  6. Follow the on-screen steps to connect your account.

  2. In the top right corner of the widget, click the more options icon, then click Edit.
  3. On the edit widget screen, click the Add button beside the Account field.
