Data discrepancies between Google Analytics 4 and Geckoboard

Learn why you might be seeing different numbers in Google Analytics 4 than within your Geckoboard widgets.

Timezone mismatch

The timezone setting in Geckoboard will impact what data is shown for your GA4 widgets, so we recommend verifying that your timezone settings match.

To locate your timezone info in GA4, follow these steps within your Google Analytics account:

  1. Make sure the correct GA4 property is selected.

  2. Click the Admin icon in the bottom left.

  3. On the left sidebar, click Property.

  4. Then click Properties.

  5. Check the Reporting timezone field for the current timezone.

  6. Update if needed.

If the timezone differs from what is in Geckoboard, update Geckoboard to match (or modify in GA4 if preferred).

Data freshness and processing time

If you see a Google Analytics 4 widget showing 0 or a lower number than expected, the likely reason for this is due to how data freshness works with Google Analytics 4.

Data freshness is Google's terminology for how recently they've collected, processed, or reported data within your property. If the processing on Google's end takes 20 minutes, then data freshness is 20 minutes. The freshness of your data will vary due to different processing intervals by Google.

The typical processing time depends on the type of data (realtime vs. non-realtime), interval, and property type. For realtime metrics, the processing is typically less than 1 minute. However, for others, Google's processing delay can range from 24 to 48 hours.
