GA4 widget error: 'An error occurred while talking to Google Analytics servers'

Learn why your Google Analytics 4 widgets might be displaying this error message.

Updated over a year ago

There are a few potential reasons why your Google Analytics 4 (GA4) widgets are displaying "An error occurred while talking to Google Analytics servers".

1. Check your account permissions

To access your GA4 data in Geckoboard, your account must have Viewer, Editor or Administrator permissions. Learn more about managing access and data restrictions at the account and property levels.

2. Check your GA4 properties

Check to see if the GA4 account you've connected to Geckoboard has the correct Property listed.

3. Re-authenticate your account

Check if Geckoboard is authorized to access the data in your GA4 account. Try logging out of your Google Analytics account using the same browser you're logged into Geckoboard with. Then add a new Google Analytics widget to re-authenticate your account.
