Display your Geckoboard dashboard using Google Chromecast

This article guides you through using a Google Chromecast to display your Geckoboard dashboard on a TV screen or monitor.

Checklist

To show Chrome on your TV, you’ll need:

  • A Chromecast, or a TV with Chromecast built-in.
  • A recent version of Google Chrome (version 72 or higher).
  • To connect your computer and Chromecast device to the same Wi-Fi network.
  1. On your Mac, open Google Chrome and log in to your Geckoboard account.

    Note

    You have to use Google Chrome. You can’t use another browser like Safari or Mozilla Firefox.

  2. Navigate to the Dashboard you wish to display.
  3. On the navigation menu, Click Share.share panel
  4. In the Share panel, click Create share link.share panel
  5. With your link generated, click the more options menu, then select Copy
  6. Open a new Chrome browser window and paste and copied link into the address bar, then hit Enter.

    Your dashboard will now appear on your screen.
  7. Click View on the menu bar at the top of your Mac's screen. Then click Cast…

    Note

    If this is first time you've used the Cast dialog, you’ll see an Enable casting to cloud-based services like Google Hangouts option allows you to cast your browser tabs directly to Google Hangouts and other services.

    You can leave this check box enabled. Nothing is streamed to Google Hangouts or elsewhere unless you tell Chrome to cast there.

    Select OK, Got It and you’ll see the smaller Cast dialog from now on.

  8. In the Cast dialog, click the Sources and make sure Cast tab is selected.
  9. Click on your Chromecast.
  10. You should now see your dashboard displaying on your TV.

    To make it full screen, hover over your dashboard and click the full screen icon in the top right hand corner.

Tip

To cycle through multiple dashboards on your TV screen, you can create a dashboard loop.

  1. On your PC, open Google Chrome and log in to your Geckoboard account.

    Note

    You have to use Google Chrome. You can’t use another browser like Microsoft Edge or Mozilla Firefox.

  2. Navigate to the Dashboard you wish to display.
  3. On the navigation menu, Click Share.share panel
  4. In the Share panel, click Create share link.share panel
  5. With your link generated, click the more options menu, then select Copy
  6. Open a new Chrome browser window and paste and copied link into the address bar, then hit Enter.

    Your dashboard will now appear on your screen.
  7. Click Chrome’s menu on the right side of the window and select Cast…

    Alternatively, you can right-click the current page and select Cast….

  8. In the Cast dialog, click the arrow next to Cast to and make sure Cast tab is selected.
  9. Click on your Chromecast.
  10. You should now see your dashboard displaying on your TV.

    To make it full screen, hover over your dashboard and click the full screen icon in the top right hand corner.

Tip

To cycle through multiple dashboards on your TV screen, you can create a dashboard loop.
